Netcomm 3GT1Wn 3G Wireless Router – Taking the Web on Vacation!

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Introducing the Netcomm 3GT1Wn 3G Wireless N150 Travel Router [3GT1WN] – Create Instant Wireless Hotspots!

While it used to be that holiday makers would want to get away from their computers, the increasing penetration of the Internet for all aspects of our lives now means that people are much more reluctant to put themselves out of touch with the World Wide Web. Traditionally this has meant relying on Internet cafes or on accommodation that can provide a fixed line Internet connection.

However, hotel Internet connections are often unreasonably expensive or quite limited in their speed. And for those who prefer their holidays to include isolation, camping or boats, a fixed line solution is not an option. In recent years the possibility of using a 3G network has become more viable for travelers, usually through a USB-based ‘dongle’ receiver. This allows a measure of connectivity, but at the edge of the 3G footprint, reception will be limited by the small size and arrangement of the dongle’s antennas. Additionally, the dongle is a single-user arrangement, with only one computer capable of connecting at a time.

For those consumers who do have a dongle, they can still make it perform at its best by using a nonembedded wireless 3G router like the Netcomm 3GT1Wn Travel Router. Connecting the dongle to this device enables the sharing of the 3G account between multiple machines and family members. The t1 fits in a shirt pocket and its built-in battery frees users from the need to rig up cables or place it adjacent to their computer.

The t1’s Ethernet port can also be used to access an ADSL connection. One scenario that is bound to be of assistance to frequent travelers is in helping to avoid smartphone bill shock from overseas roaming and data downloads. The t1 can allow phone owners to access the Net from (for example) their hotel room’s Ethernet connection. They can then use the t1 as a Wi-Fi access point to get their phone online instead of depending on the foreign 3G network. Similarly, small groups of people travelling together could access the Internet via the one connection instead of all of them paying for 3G dongles or phone roaming. If you don’t want to rely on dongles, another on-the-road solution is to make use of an embedded gateway router, such as the NetComm MyZone. With an embedded SIM the router can create an instant hotspot for multiple users, either wirelessly or via Ethernet. The integrated battery gives about 5 hours of life and 40 on standby. Recharging is through a USB cable.

With the power of 3G and the right NetComm 3GT1Wn gateway, nobody travelling for leisure need cut themselves off from their online life while they sit back and recharge their mental batteries

Telephone Systems For Start Ups!

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Starting a small business can be a daunting task, there is so much to organise, plan and execute all whilst ensuring that the ship sails and doesn’t sink. One of the last things that is on a business owners mind is how to setup a telephone system, who to speak to, or where to go – and inevitably what will it all cost?

For most startups there is often difficulty knowing when to implement a telephone system. Most entrepreneurs are used to working primarily from their mobile phone. Operating solely on a mobile phone can be a limit to your growth especially when you start bringing on new staff. You are also always tied to the one number and the one simultaneous call and if it’s a personal mobile number you could have potential privacy issues after hours. There are a number of benefits to using VoIP and setting up a phone system, the main of them come out of flexibility, cheap phone calls, and in particular with vtalk the ease of setup and implementation. One of the great benefits of being a startup looking to implement VoIP is that if you choose to go IP right from the start. Which means that like your new venture you are literally boss of where you calls go, who you are with, what plan you go on and best of all you can own everything.

As a start up, here’s a couple of hot tips we’d like to share with you:

Internet Connectivity

For a startup business running from home, you can get away with using an ADSL 2+ connection (even naked connection with no line rental) in conjunction with a basic VoIP (SIP) service/plan. This type of service on a home connection should take you all the way until you’re ready to make the move into your own office as far as phone calls and use of internet go for up to 5 people.

Head over to our Broadband Deals page, to checkout the awesome offers we currently have available.

VoIP Plan

VoIP plans are what are now supplied by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Lines are now called channels and having two channels is now consider standard. Most ISP’s will charge about $10 per channel per month as opposed to having line rental at around $30 per month on traditional phone systems. Picking a VoIP plan can be tricky as there are so many out there, we recommend having your VoIP/SIP plan with the same provider as your Internet. We recommend and use Internode NodePhone.

Whilst you are setting up and deciding which number to advertise, it’s also a good time to consider if you should look at obtaining a 1300 number. The benefit is that like a VoIP number it moves with your business if you grow and relocate. Callers in also pay a local call cost only and it can give your business a national footprint overnight!

For 1300 numbers – we recommend Telecube.

Hardware:

As a one off cost of $1499 or $1500 bucks in non retail speak, you can grab yourself a vtalk that will plug directly into your network and run your telecommunications for your next 10 staff! If you’re serious about vtalk one of the great things is that the vtalk box is compatible with different handset manufacturers like Snom, Aastra, Yealink & Linksys, so you can pick which handsets you’re comfortable with. The other things to consider are, is your modem / router going to be suitable for VoIP and do you have enough free ports in your router/Switch?

We generally politely recommend you upgrading your modem for a quality DrayTek  modem anyway.

What You Need:

If you’re a start up business and looking to get your hands on a vtalk,  here’s an awesome bundle that you should take advantage of.

Our 3 user special including a vtalk, 3 Basic Snom handsets and a draytek modem router.
