Installing Android CyanogenMod 7.1 Android Alpha 3 on the HP TouchPad!

Did you mange to score yourself one of the few HP TouchPads which Harvery Norman decided to clear out earlier this year?

If you did you’ve probably found out by now that, for a well polished piece of technology, the HP TouchPad and it’s WebOS software is fairly useless for anything other than browsing the web.

That is… until now!

HP TouchPad Running Android

After several months of hard work from these developers, the HP TouchPad can now install/port Android CyanogenMod onto it, through the Android CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3!

If this is the one you’ve been waiting for, simply following the steps outlined below and get your HP Android Tablet up and running with Android CyanogenMod in no time!

Source: http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-7-1-android-alpha-3-on-the-hp-touchpad.html

  1. Download update-cm-7.1.0-tenderloin-a3-fullofbugs-signed.zip from the RootzWiki forum. You can either download it directly on your tablet or on your computer and then copy it to your tablet.
  2. Make sure the ZIP file is located on your SD card.
  3. While running Android on your TouchPad, press and hold the power button and then select the “reboot” option.
  4. Tap the option to “Reboot to Recovery.”
  5. Your tablet should reboot to ClockworkMod Recovery.
  6. Use the volume buttons to navigate to the option that says “install zip from sdcard.”
  7. Press the home button to select.
  8. Use the home button to select “choose zip from sdcard.”
  9. Use the volume keys to navigate to the file you want. If it’s in the root directory of your SD card, just scroll down until you find it and then press the home button. If not, navigate to the folder you want, press home to enter the folder, and then press home to select the update-cm-7.1.0-tenderloin-a3-fullofbugs-signed.zip file.
  10. Once you’ve selected the ZIP file, scroll down with the volume buttons until you get to “Yes.”
  11. Press the home button to apply the update.
  12. After Alpha 3 is finished installing, you can use the volume buttons to scroll down to “Go Back” and keep pressing it until you see the option to “reboot system now” and press the home button to reboot.

You should also be able to set the HP TouchPad up as a dual boot tablet, allowing you to select the Android or WebOS features at start-up.

Expect some changes and improvements over the coming months but as of right now, us lucky few have scored an Android touchpad for only $99.

Stay tuned for a video of the install, which we will be doing shortly.

Enjoy!
Adam.

Warcom Wizards – BETA

Friday, October 21st, 2011

We’re excited to announce a new initiative we’re trialing here at Warcom.

Introducing The Warcom Wizards!

Over the last few years, we’ve kept tabs on certain Warcom customers, who we consider to be the early adopter, super geek, bleeding edge, trail blazers.

As such, we’ve been busily building a new system which imports all sorts of data, metrics, maths equations and generates a graph based on what it believes, to be the best products based on the category they reside in.

For example, we’ll display the best over all ADSL  Modem from best -> worst, in the ADSL Modem category.

What do we need from you?

In order to actually make this system work successful, we actually need to sign up around 200 customers so we can get a decent data segment that we can use.

So, over the coming week’s we will be scouring our client database and inviting people to become Warcom Wizard’s.

What do I get for being a Warcom Wizard?

  • Bragging right’s: You can tell your mates that you’re part of the exclusive Warcom Wizard team.
  • Exclusive pricing: To be considered a Warcom Wizard, you need to be a frequent purchaser. Frequent purchases get better pricing, so we’ll make sure we look after you.
  • You will receive an honorary Warcom Wizard Number, which you can stick on your Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Website. etc.
How do I become a Warcom Wizard?
  • If you frequently buy the latest and greatest hardware, even in small quantities, there is a good chance you’ll receive an invite.
  • If you frequently buy the latest and greatest hardware, in large quantities, there’s an even better chance you’ll receive an invite.
  • If you conduct yourself in a professional manner, in and around social mediums and or forums, and you buy from us, there is a good chance you will be invited.
Rules of becoming a Warcom Wizard.
  • First rule: Don’t ask to be one.
  • We prefer you don’t share your buying history with others.
  • We prefer you do not share information about the Wizard Deals we offer you, with others.

Who got a HP TouchPad?

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

So I was one of the 4800 people lucky enough to rush down to Harveys this afternoon and pickup a HP TouchPad! .. A 32GB HP TouchPad that is!

Actually, Adrian and Adam from our office also picked one up.

I must admit at first glance I guess I was in the same boat as most other people……. “I’ll buy this thing, and flog it on eBay for $100 more” … But after playing with it for an hour of so I’m some what surprised why they’ve decided to ditch this device and the WebOS.

It’s actually pretty damn impressive.

Pros:

  • It’s Fast.
  • It’s ace for YouTube, RedTube, and the various other Tubes.
  • It’s funky looking.
  • Hopefully someone hacks it, and put’s android on it!
  • The app store looks awesome (much better than Apple Store)
Cons:
  • They are no longer going to be making it…
  • I’m guessing there’s not going to be any more apps made for it.
  • There’s a lot more than 4800 people in Australia who missed out.
  • It seems to reboot every now and then by itself. (weird).

Over to you guys – hit me up with your thoughts and comments.

And thanks to the person on ozbargain who posted this bargain up – you deserve a few beers!

- Paul.
