ADSL Filters – Is expensive better?
In this world of ever-changing technology, one thing has never change. People still have this stupid logic that the higher-priced items must be of better quality. While retail shops would love you to think that, it is very rarely the case.
Don’t get me wrong – good quality does cost more! However, marketing gurus attack your hip pocket like leeches on a beast. They attacked your areas of vulnerability, your lack of knowledge, and they attacked your common sense.

Putting this into the perspective of the new breed of ADSL filters, we find that your hip pocket is being fleeced once again by the marketing gods.
Filters come in two flavours – passive or active.
Passive filters are lazy. They wait for the problem to occur, and then wait to react. Buying a $50 filter will not make it better. No matter how much money you spend, it is still going to react after the fact.
Active filters on the other hand, are actively seeking out the noise, and pops, and hisses that exist in normal telecommunication lines, and remove these from the data stream. This means that the quality of the line is the best that it can be at that time. You must understand that the quality of the line will change throughout the day, as the demand fluctuates.
We have always recommended the ACS filters as they are the fastest active filters on the market. There is soon to be patented technology is far superior to anything else on the market. If you want to see the best of the best in action, spend $15 and you will never understand why somebody had not told you this earlier.
A bad filter will force your modem to negotiate and connect at a slower speed than your line is capable of, resulting in slower download and upload speeds.
So the money you spend on a good filter, will be rewarded in higher speeds of your connection. And at $15 for the inline version, or about $40 for the central unit that covers all your house, you can hardly go wrong.
